Assisting in research and business related to water, to the effective use of water resources
NRI predicts demand for water in Japan will decrease with the decline in the population. For this reason, NRI is involved in a variety of research and business projects to make effective use of Japan's water resources and its outstanding water application technologies, in order to find solutions to water shortages in various parts of the world and to foster Japan's water-related business activities.
For instance, research has been conducted on the strategic use of water resources in cooperation with the SEQ Urban Water Security Research Alliance in Australia, along with Kawasaki City in Japan and other public entities. With Nomura Securities and the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, NRI has organized a team to provide financial assistance to Japanese enterprises planning to enter the water-related businesses. NRI is also assisting in the project being promoted by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to ship from Japanese tertiary treated sewage water that has undergone highly advanced water treatment to other countries for effective use. NRI supported the Study Group for International Development of the Water Business by research activities on international development of the water business under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
