NRI Information Technology Report 2005 vol.5   Information Technology Map and IT Road Map (Latter Half of Fiscal 2004)   In the midst of the rapid development of information technology (IT), the environment surrounding IT, which includes broadband networks, mobile terminals and information devices has also been changing at a rapid pace. If a business enterprise intends to make a suitable IT investment, it must understand the objective positioning of the technology currently available. At the same time, it must map out a technical strategy that predicts the trends of the relevant technology available in the future. NRI refers to such activity as "IT navigation." Since 2001, we have been creating information technology maps and IT road maps as part of this activity.
