Nomura Research Institute, Ltd. (NRI: Tokyo; Akihisa Fujinuma, President, CEO&COO) and its U.S. subsidiary, NRI Pacific Inc. (San Mateo, California, USA; Koji Yagi, President), will co-found Advanced Technology Demonstration Laboratory. The Laboratory will be located in NRI Pacific. In the laboratory, we will swiftly evaluate advanced technologies in the United States and utilize them as well as the knowledge when making new proposals and creating new solutions.
In our internal R&D projects, NRI and NRI Pacific have collaborated on research into 1)system design and development methods using IC tags, 2)open source product utilization and 3)web-based single sign-on technology, and have developed some prototypes. In fiscal 2004, we will set up a facility to focus on on-the-spot inspections of advanced technologies and will establish an environment in which R&D results can be constantly demonstrated, therewith conducting R&D projects jointly with advanced technology vendors on the West Coast of the United States.
Examples of the activities to be undertaken in the Laboratory include:

| (2) | Evaluation of XP agile software development |
| (3) | Testing and demonstration of products or prototypes based on SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) |
We intend to conduct these demonstrations in the presence of user companies, either on job sites or in a simulated environment. By combining the advanced technologies available from U.S. vendors and our expertise in application design and software platform technologies, the Laboratory will encourage the aggressive pioneering of new technologies and the development of businesses leveraged by them.
The results achieved by the Advanced Technology Demonstration Laboratory will be disclosed both in Japan and in the United States by linking them to R&D projects currently in progress in our offices in Japan, mainly at the Center for Knowledge Exchange and Creation and at the Advanced Information Technology Division.
With a view to the increasingly sophisticated needs of a growing information services market, NRI will work closely with NRI Pacific in expanding our involvement with the latest advancements in information technology, which lead us to new solutions.
