Nomura Research Institute, Ltd. (NRI: Tokyo; Akihisa Fujinuma, President, CEO & COO) and Development Research Center of the State Council, the People's Republic of China (DRC: Beijing, China; Wang Mengkui, President) have agreed to further expand research exchange between the two institutions, and have exchanged memorandums to that effect.

NRI and DRC have continued friendly and close research exchange since the beginning of the 1990s through cooperative research and policy proposal activities regarding the global economy (AT10), promoted by the Tokyo Club Foundation for Global Studies (Tokyo; Shozo Hashimoto, President), established by Nomura Securities Co., Ltd. in 1987.

Economic exchange between Japan and China has become even more active with China’s accession to the WTO and the 30th anniversary of the normalization of Japan-China diplomatic relations. The role to be played by the two nations in the steady growth of the global economy is increasingly enlarging. To make a greater contribution to the economic development of Japan and China through further improvement of research standards, NRI and DRC have agreed to strengthen their mutual cooperative relationship.

Both organizations will establish sections that will manage and coordinate mutual exchange and research exchange activities, and consider exchange activities from a long-term perspective. Specifically, they plan to exchange information and reference materials concerning the Japanese and Chinese economies and research results, mutual reception of short-term visiting researchers, implementation of joint research projects, and the commissioning of research projects.
